Classical and Positive School of Criminology Essay

The Classical School of Criminology and the Positive School of Criminology are two of the main theories that try and explain the behavior of delinquents. The Classical School of Criminology was developed in the late 1700s by Cesare Beccaria. Classical theorists were trying to decrease punishment and obtain equal justice for all. According to Beccaria and Jeremy Bantham, and English philospther, human nature is characterized by three central features: 1) People are not bound by original sin but have freedom of choice; 2) people are rational and are capable of using reason to govern their lives; and 3) people are motivated to pursue their own self-interests at the expense of others. Postivists also argued that crime, like any other phenomenon, is determined by prior causes; it doesnt just happen. The emphasis of the classical school on reason and free will, they said, is too simplistic. People are not always free to do as they wish. Much, if not all, of their behavior is determined by biological, psychological, and social forces over which the have little personal control. Because certain laws govern the operation of theos forces, another job of criminologists was to discober the laws about crime.  · Value neutrality. Positvists argued, in addition, that there is a need to be neutral about societal values. Although politicians, citizens, and criminal justice officials had to be concerned with implementing policies that are consistent with prevailing values, criminologists ere to be concerned primarily with trying to understand why people violate the law and the effects of alternatibe crime control policies. This is not to say that criminologists couldnt espouse certain values in their roles as ordinary citizens. But as scientists, the were to confine themselves to facts based on objective evidence. Coaching behavior

Question: Discuss how values and beliefs impact on coaching behaviour and evaluate the impact they may have on the development of an effective coaching environment. You should draw upon theory and practical examples to support your points. Answer: Introduction Coaching is an ongoing approach in an organization for managing people which helps in creating genuine motivational climate for performance. Coaching do improve actual expected performance of players and the match between the two. It as well improves the probability of the success of the player/employee through provision of the feedback, clarity, support and recognition. In management performance, coaching means provision of ongoing support and feedback to employees throughout the year. It gives employees the opportunity such that they can know how they perform so that they can change and adopt their behaviors to the best.(Team, 2015). Role Of Beliefs And Values In Coaching Effects of values and beliefs on coaching or maybe leadership behavior is intensified field and more complicated than one would think at the first glance. The link between coaching behaviors and values is a lot less firm than one would think about. In most cases the way human behaves is a reflection of what they believe in. A belief is a conviction or an opinion on something. Humans form their beliefs through their environments (culture, incident, family, relationships). Most human beliefs are subconscious and are ingrained deeply to their sense of self and how they do things. Self-awareness is the key for most people to realize and see their belief. One can understand their intent or motivation behind their behaviors by understanding and having awareness of their beliefs. Mind is that part of a person that do reason, feel, thinks, perceives, memorizes, wills or judges (Dictionary.com.2009).The mind is synonymous with thoughts frequently though frequent discussions that they hold in mind or change their mind as well as through are of two minds about something. Human can only interpret what others can unconsciously or consciously communicate. In human mind they form certain belief about somethings that are true. Core beliefs are those views that are long-standing that they hold about themselves, about the world, other people and the future. This are formed usually during childhood or maybe during other important times in life and serve humans as sort of guide in life on the information about things. Humans filter their experiences in accordance to their beliefs being a way of sensing the world. The beliefs are helpful sometimes and other times not helpful. They may lead to obstructing all the efforts of growth, proceeding ahead and being happy in life. The beliefs are not always accurate and at times it can be grossly skewed. Despite all they do make sense sometimes, in accordance to the life experiences. This is in accordance to psychology that certain beliefs in life happen and develop with a reason(McGraw, 2010). Core beliefs, especially those which are negative, most of the times can lie dormant and only gets activated when a very crucial situation triggers them. A good example is when a person is bitten or crawled by a cat at a tender age, they may develop that belief that all pets are bad and may end up refusing to get associated or engage with pets. Growth and maturity of a person can be positively affected by beliefs and some other beliefs can stagnant the growth and lead to barrier in someones life(Anon., 2013). Negative core beliefs sometimes maybe exaggerated and rigid with no open evidence or possibility. For example, if a perfectionist student gets a B and in a course, the negative belief may be that she/he is a failure since only failures get Bs which may lead to certain withdrawal and anxious behaviors. The person may identify himself as a failure which is perceived as rigid and harsh. In this case, the person did not see the strength or wonderful things about the course all he saw was the failure. Instead of identifying this as an area to grow and learn, he just misbelief himself. The best positive attitude in this case study would be, Ok, I did my best and I shall learn from my failure in that exam I failed. I am determined to improve and I am hardworking. In that case this person becomes open to change and just accept the past as a way of improving. Significantly, there are some elements that do affect human behavior. Someones knowledge is one of the elements and generally refers to truth, facts, experience or report. Skills also affects the personal behavior as well. It refers to ability of doing things well, due to training/coaching, talent or through practice. Other elements are attitude, belief and values, they all affect the way people behave and can be influenced by coaching. The main reason for having coaching in sports is to induce desire to change at one or more levels. Coaching help in changing interpersonal skills like time management and development of effective and productive relationships among players and workers if in an organization. Players differences can be sort out and they get training on the right values and behaviors. When an organization have workers with no good relations among themselves, it calls for coaching, thats why teams have coaches in sports. When there is need to develop more strategic organizational policy approach, proper coaching is required to develop and correct the mistakes in an organization. Beliefs most of the time do impact someones feelings, perception, attitude as well as behavior. Changing a belief is an initiator of behavior change and improvement of performance. The impact of the coaches beliefs as reflected by their performance need to be considered and they should always be non-judgmental. In this case the coach will help the person to know the limiting beliefs and uphold the helpful once. Have you ever had a conversation inside your head? You do not just voice beliefs which are false and limiting, but you may also have a very destructive and bad mentality in your head. In psychological human effects, the coaching can be made to help the person go through this and deal with it properly(Anderson, 2004). The key part of any coaching is to help victims of the situation work there on their mental destructions and thinking even if the coach is not around them to help them on the same. What is the key in the coaching relationship is to help the person so that he/she can be self-sufficient. If this is no done the coach becomes unhelpful to the person who is being coached. For example, imagine for a minute that you are supposed to present something. Having a negative perception on how it may turn out may result to negative mentally about everything in that presentation. There shall be a labeling generalization and negative thoughts on how everything might turn out to be. If yo u change the same perception and dialogue in mind to a positive one, you get to be motivated and may lead to success and a good presentation. Past experiences can help improve the coaching behavior by realizing the impact and experience of someone on the current behaviors and attitudes. The role of coaching should be to help the person know that the challenges are there for everyone to face. By use of technique of questioning and listening it may help so much in this. It is not good to overstate the importance and impact of beliefs as much as coaching is concerned. Accordingly, if anyone thinks of helping players in coaching so that they can have the potential and perform appropriately, he/she should refine his skills so that they can work in this challenging and dynamic area. Coaches help improve players skills develop strong character, perform to their best ability as well as helping them gain confidence. They maximize positive value of sport and enhance motivation to play. Its very important to know that if coaches overvalues the need to win, the environment they may create may lead to unsportsmanlike behavior flourishing. Coaches can push players psychological, physical and emotional limits to a point of harm, create unfair and hostile environment which may lead to turning young athlete sportsmen/women away from sports forever(Douglas, 2001). Despite loving and respecting their teams, coaches may lose perspective for quest to win. It do happen at collage and elite levels, when coaches are pressured by need to produce winning and moneymaking teams so as to earn very high salaries. Inappropriate behavior of coaches may lead to problems in sports. Players outcome in win or loosing pends on the coach who helped and trained them. Conclusion Effective coaching involves encouraging and providing learning opportunities to ones players. You can know the coaching is effective by the willingness of the players to play in the next season as much as the number of winning matches are concerned. Effective coaching can help payers to raise their self-esteem that those players who are not coached. Training according to a research by Diane Wiese-Bjornstal(Anon., 2015) showed that it lowers the anxiety levels and that a dislike by children who are being coached can lead to discontinuation. Diane suggested that thoughts, actions and feelings of girls in sports and also physical activities do depend largely on coaches influencers, exercise leaders and gym teacher. Despite girls seeking social rewards in sports, they are likely to depend on trainers than boy so that their positive experiences can be created. Stinging criticism by coaches may mean more to girls than to boys. Those are differences in values and behaviors between boys and girls. Effective coaching do focus on teaching and learning as well as distribution of leadership. The focus promotes leadership skill development, professional learning and support for coaches which targets on how to improve players performance. The most critical of all is team building, by making players and all variables to work together which to a collective gain. References Anderson A. K. Z. . G. D., 2004.
